Sunday, February 27, 2011 - We regret to inform everyone of the passing of FF Ben Monger E231 (Ret). Ben was assigned to E231 in 1963 and remained a pillar of the company, seeing an extraordinary amount of fire duty up until his transfer to Bn44 in 1979. He was a decorated Marine Seargeant Major who served our country in WW2, The Korean War, and Vietnam. He, like others was a part of the FDNY War Years which was a group of gentlemen who laid the foundation for building the ideals of this great Department with the motto "Maximum Effort". All of Watkins St sends a tip of the cap to Ben as he now goes to a higher place. ....UNQUOTE......What an incredibile set of careers.....USMC in THREE Wars as well as all the War Years on Watkins St....a true American Hero......REST IN PEACE SIR.....SEMPER FI!
