With the increased amount of marine responses, and large incidents like the helicopter crash last night where all 3 big boats were assigned, im surprised the job has not made the summer boats year round, or at least 3&4.

2.2 SUPPLEMENT TO DEPARTMENT ORDER

SEASONAL BOAT PROGRAM - MARINE CO. 8 AND MARINE CO. 4
Marine Company 8 will be in service as of 0700 hours on Monday, May 18, 2020, as follows:
Marine Co. 8, based at Atlantis Marina, will cover Staten Island and monitor the Staten Island radio frequency. Marine Company 4 will be in service as of 0700 hours on Monday May 25, 2020, as follows:
Marine Co. 4, based at the Fort Totten, will cover the North shore of Queens and the South shore of the Bronx. Marine 4 and monitor the Queens radio frequency.
Marine Co. 3, Marine Co. 4, & Marine Co. 8 will be in service daily from 0700 to 2400 hours, and will be staffed with an Officer and two CFR certified firefighters from Marine Operations. They will operate on their respective borough radio frequencies, as well as Channel 6B on the 800 MHz radio. Their 33-foot SAFE Boat is equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump, 25 Gallons of Universal Gold AR-AFFF (Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foam), generator, de-watering pumps, FLIR Infrared Systems, and basic Haz-Mat detection equipment in addition to standard water rescue equipment. These boats are an excellent water source for fires in remote areas near the waterfront. These boats should also be used to ensure the safety of members operating on piers or near the water. They can also be used to communicate with NYPD Harbor Units and NYPD Aviation, the US Coast Guard and other vessels via their Marine VHF radio for water rescues, dive ops, boaters in distress, and/or reports of drowning and other medical emergencies.

What does the department do with these boats during the "off-season"? Are they dry-docked?

2.2 SEASONAL BOAT PROGRAM Marine Operations Seasonal Boat Program will be in service as of 0700 hours, Monday, May 3, 2021 as follows: • Marine 3, based at Kingsborough College, will cover the South shores of Brooklyn and Queens. Marine 3 will monitor the Brooklyn radio frequency. • Marine 4, based at the Fort Totten, will cover the North shore of Queens and the South shore of the Bronx. Marine 4 will monitor the Queens radio frequency. • Marine 8, based at Atlantis Marina, will cover Staten Island and will monitor the Staten Island radio frequency. End of Seasonal Boats 2021.....
END OF SEASONAL BOAT PROGRAM
Marine Operations Rapid Response Craft Program (RRC) will conclude this season on Thursday, October 28th, 2021 at 2400 hours. Marine Co. 3 (Brooklyn/Queens), Marine Co. 4 (Queens/Bronx) and Marine Co. 8 (Staten Island) will no longer be in service.
Marine Companies 1, 6, and 9 will remain in service with a tiered response that includes:
  • Marine Battalion - A 33ft shallow-draft Rapid Response Craft equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
  • Marine 1 - “343” a 140ft, 50,000 GPM Large Platform Fireboat, a 33ft shallow-draft Rapid Response Craft, equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump (M1 Alpha), and a 31ft shallow-draft medical boat (M1 Bravo) located on Pier 53, Bloomfield St. and the Hudson River in Manhattan.
  • Marine 6 - “Bravest” a 65ft, 6,000 GPM Fireboat, “William M. Feehan” a 70ft, 6,000 GPM Fireboat, a 33ft shallow-draft Rapid Response Craft equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump (M6 Alpha), and a 31ft shallow draft medical boat (M6 Bravo) located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
  • Marine 9 - “Firefighter II” a 140ft, 50,000 GPM Large Platform Fireboat, a 33ft shallow draft Rapid Response Craft, equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump (M9 Alpha), and a 31ft shallow draft medical boat (M9 Bravo) located in the Staten Island Homeport.
    Chief Officers are reminded that a Marine Company should be special called for any waterfront operation in the five boroughs of New York City. Applications for the 2022 Marine Seasonal Boat Program will be accepted throughout the month of February 2022.

As per Communications Manual Chapter 8, units are reminded that signal10-46 shall be transmitted for any maritime fire or emergency:
10-46 Code 1: Any fire in maritime environment (example: vessel, dock, pier)
10-46 Code 2: Emergency in maritime environment - Examples: Vessel in distress, person(s) in the water removed by Marine personnel, hazard to navigation, hazardous materials incident in maritime environment.
