On the above date and time, Companies 1, 4 and 5 were requested to respond to the location provided for the report of a house on fire. Upon arrival of Squad 1, fire was visible from the front of the house. Squad 1 stretched an 1 3/4” attack hose to the seat of the fire which was a 2 car garage. The fire had extended to the 2nd floor of the home. As additional crews and apparatus arrived, 2 more attack lines were put to work to suppress the fire. An engine from Company 3 was added due to the weather conditions and for additional manpower. It took approximately 40 minutes to extinguish all visible fire but members operated for an extended period of time conducting salvage and overhaul. Squad 1, Engines 2, 42, 35, 52, Ladder 47, Car 4 (Safety), Rehab 48 and Derby Engine 12 (as RIT) operated under the command of Assistant Chief Bob Finta along with approximately 30 members. The home was deemed unsafe for occupancy displacing 3 residents and a dog. The Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Shelton EMS provided standby coverage in the event anyone was injured, fortunately they were not utilized. While crews operated on the scene Truck 3, Engine 32, Rescue 30, Car 1 (Citywide Command) and Car 3 along with mutual aid from Derby and Nichols FD responded to 6 additional calls for service ranging from lightning strikes to fire alarms.
