Squirt Apparatus

A Squirt is a 50 to 55 foot articulating boom usually mouinted on a pumper. No basket is attached only a nozzle. I believe that Philadelphia uses quite a few and Boston may also be usionmg them. Has FDNY ever experimented with using a Squirt and what was the assessment ?
 
 
This was Boston's last Squrt apparatus. They took the chassis from a HP 1500GPM unit and attached the appliance. It ran as the second piece of the Tower Unit. I believe it served until the mid 1980's. Boston has no Squrt apparatus in service.

Philadelphia still has 6 engine companies assigned Squrts as their front line pieces. Squrts 8, 9, 35 and 70 have the articulating booms. Water Towers 38 and 57 have the Snozzle devices.
 
Engine 39's got a coat of yellow. Also please note the legal, copyright spelling is Squrt. No matter what spell check says.

Chicago fire department also runs 4 squrts as the 2nd piece of their squads. The actual manufacturer of squrts went through bankruptcy (I believe they have been bought out by somebody else now) and they actually had somebody built something similar for their new units, I forget who it was.

Don't think so, Joe. The 2nd pieces of the Chicago squads are the Rosenbauer version of the Snorkel, not the Squrt.
 
Columbus, Ohio had 5 of them many years ago. They went with the engine company on every run. GMC chassis, no pump. Basically, a hose wagon with the boom attached. Nice for laying a 5 inch supply line to the engine.
 
Cincinnati ran 2 1979 Seagraves with 54' squrts (E5 and E14) and 2 1980 Seagraves with 50' telesqurts (E3 and E19).
