"FDNY Fire Prevention vehicle overturns in crash on Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An FDNY Fire Prevention vehicle flipped over in a crash in Westerleigh Thursday morning that prompted a large emergency response.
Officials received reports of the crash at approximately 3:25 a.m., at the intersection of Collfield and Waters avenues, an FDNY spokesman said.
According to a witness account, the FDNY vehicle was traveling northbound on Collfield at the time of the crash.
Photos from the scene showed firefighters gathered around a white FDNY sedan on its roof with its airbags deployed.
Officials did not immediately provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The witness said a black pick-up truck parked on the street suffered some rear-end damage and a flat tire as a result of the crash.
The FDNY vehicle was flipped back onto its wheels by the NYPD Emergency Service Unit and towed away from the scene, the witness said.
FDNY CRASHES
This crash marks the third FDNY vehicle involved in an accident on Staten Island within a month. On March 27, an FDNY vehicle was involved in an head-on collision involving a sedan in Castleton Corners.
Twenty days before that crash, on March 7, five firefighters and a civilian were injured when an FDNY truck collided with a car, which became pinned against a utility pole in Eltingville.
