Staten island Squad

Alot depends upon the city's budget. The mayor again stated that he has to close 20 fire companies - this is his way to gain public support for FD which  will force him to cuts other agencies. S.I. has been a leader in buying special equipment for the fire dept. They are getting a new police station - the 121st Pct. should being opening up this year up the raod from Eng 166's quarters. So lets sit back & see what happens. A new Squad can be used for South Brooklyn & also in upper Manhattan.

New squad would probably be best for Staten Island or south brooklyn near the Verrazano. I seriously can't believe how long of a trek they have Squad 1 make every time SI has a fire. In rush hour traffic that can easily be an hour long ride. Upper Manhattan maybe like Upper East or Upper West, but still not as bad as Staten Island.

Also has the city announced when the 121 opens? I'm assuming the 122 satellite closes down, which had a new UD truck sitting near it today.

i know i said this on another thread but i really think if they put a squad on si it should be somewhere in the 23,,,,  even 165 is too far north in my opinion.

if there is a 10-75, pin job, etc  anything that a squad and rescue go to i would think you want the squad and the rescue at opposite ends of each other, that way one of the two can be there relativly quickly.  imagine a job in tottenville - rescue coming from concord and squad coming from new dorp......  just doesnt make sense to me.

if the squad was in 168 or 154 then anything in the 23 they could get to quickly and anything north shore they can get to relatively quicky with the expressways.  if you put them in 165 which is always rumored,  then you have the squad, rescue and sattelite all within a 4 mile radius of each other
just my opinion

It has been confirmed E 165 squad rumor is no longer..the dept has layed the idea of that company being a squad down even though they are getting a squad style rig soon to replace there current rig. As of right now there is no plan for making a squad on Staten island.

If there are no plans of making Engine 165 a Squad why would they be getting a squad style apperatus???? Is it because E165 is a haz-mat tech unit and would the other 3 engine companies that are haz-mat tech E44, E250, 274 be getting the same Squad/Rescuepumper rigs?

Yes ..it is because of the amount of extra equipment that they carry com paired to a normal engine

Dont read FAJ right now. So what your saying is that the FDNY has 11 Squad/Rescue pumper style rigs on order. 7 for the Squad Companies and 4 for the Haz-mat tech Engines? Would the Haz-mat Engines keep thier second piece or would they lose it since they will have a rig that holds more haz-mat equipment?
