How does one end up as the "back seat" driver? Does everyone take driving skills at "The Rock". Or do you ask for the assignment?

When a firefighter goes to chauffeur school for ladders he is trained in driving all types of ladder apparatus. You learn rear mount, tiller and tower ladder operations. So when you complete school you are qualified in all ladders. In a Tiller unit the OV position is usually the tillerman, this decision is a company thing, you must have 2 school trained chauffeurs to operate this rig. Depending on amount of chauffeurs in company you may get a detail in to drive from another unit this is the reason all are trained on each type of apparatus.
