The recent posting of Joe Marino’s photo of Ladder 33 in a street cage back in 1985 prompted this question.

When did FDNY first use street cages for apparatus and which companies have used them/when?

I’ll start the list:

Ladder 33 in 1985

Engine 247 in 1988

Engine 43/Ladder 59 in late 80’s/early 90’s

Ladder 136 in 1996 at Engine 292

Engine 274 in 1997-1998

Engine 81/Ladder 46 in 2004

Ladder 37 in 2008-2010 at Engine 81

Engine 65 in 2012 at Engine 26

Engine 242 in 2013 at Engine 241

Ladder 3 in 2013 at Engine 5

Engine 292 in 2013-2015 at Engine 259

Rescue 4 in 2013-2015 at Engine 316

Engine 5 in 2015 at Engine 33

Ladder 25 in 2015

Engine 43 in 2022-2023

Ladder 31 in 2021

Engine 82 in 2022

Engine 159/Satellite 5 in 2023-2024

Engine 287/Ladder 136 in 2021-2024

Engine 165 in 2023-2024?

287/136 has been in a cage since 2022? Didn't they just go in the cage a few months ago??

81/46 were actually in parking lot used by members, not sure of exact year around 2004 or so, they added a large sliding gate to accommodate rigs. L-37 also used this area when there quarters were being done. E-274 was also in a cage on Murray St. around 97/98

43/59 cage from early nineties, still there. Reused by 43 recently for kitchen renovation. Otherwise is used for parking.

R*4 in a roofed over cage adjacent to 316 a few yrs ago...R*2 in a roofed over cage on the sidewalk outside their Bergen St FH also a few yrs ago .

The Tin House Rescue. The side parking lot next to E316 The gate was on the expose 3 side of the fire house , 100th Steet Side. Had a great time w E-316 And caught some good first due work with them. Pic taken 4 /2015.

When 80/23 's quarters caught fire I know 80 went to 69/28 Think 23 went to 37/40

But I feel like at some point years later they ended up in a cage somewhere

I could be wrong though

Correct Ladder 23 was stationed with Eng37/Ladder 40. Below is the video with Ladder 23 leaving from the middle bay.

No cages to be seen near 69's during that time on Google maps, unless it was exactly between photos.

No cage this time but around 1989 R*2 was temporarily Quartered with 222 for awhile while work was being done on Bergen St.......

when I first went to R*2 in 1977 Fred Gallagher the CPT was trying to get the Job to let R*2 move from 210 to 222 as Wood City was really hot back then but the Job didn't go for it.

it's too bad that this move never happened just maybe the truckless wouldn't exist today
