I don't know if this is considered Doo Wop, but every time this guy was singing at one of the casinos near my house, my wife always wanted me to buy tickets for us to go see him. Maybe your wives/girl friends wanted to do the same thing.

Anyway, at 82 years old now, he's still singing to live audiences. He has also song with his son and most recently with his granddaughter. He goes by the name of Engelbert Humperdink and this was him singing live in June, 2017. This song was one of his first and most famous he sung 50 years ago.

"Fats Domino", May he Rest in Peace and Thank You for sharing your talent with us.

That guy, Englebert Humpy, I guess did have a lot going for him, and probably still does when it comes to the ladies thing. Maybe this guy had the money, the looks and the ladies.

I guess he might have had a lot going for himself, BUT, one thing that this guy DIDN'T get to do:

"He didn't get to ride Squad "A" in the fire department like I did".

It's sad to think that so much GREAT MUSIC TALENT is leaving us. Those songs, like so many others, were popular then, and to some of us still as popular today. Many of us still know those songs word for word after decades of time passing by.

Those of us who would be seniors now have such GREAT MEMORIES of a time gone by. I don't think that time frame will EVER be repeated again.

It wasn't just the music, it was the TV Shows, the families together, the true meaning of our Holidays, discipline in the school and respect for our parents and the law, the meaning of good work ethics, and on and on. I'm just glad I've been a part of it.

We probably didn't realize it then, but this music would stay with us for our entire lives, some 50 years later.

Yes indeed. Neil Sedaka was a founding member also. "Picture In My Wallet" recorded in 1959 was sung by "Darell & The Oxfords" who were guys that were part of the Tokens.

It was a long time ago, maybe 50 years. But these once much Younger Guys from the Bronx can relate to these pictures. They grew up in the Bronx. They went to school in the Bronx. Maybe back then they even sang on the street corners in the Bronx.

So join them as it was back in the days of Doo Wop. The days of Chocolate Malts and White Castle sliders. As Larry Chance and the Earls, also from the Bronx, sings about the Streets of the Bronx.

We dedicate this to:
1) Mike D., aka "mikeindabronx"
2) Tom E., aka "guitarman314"
3) Frank D., aka "fdce54".
4) Bill J., aka "Parkave32"
5) Ken F., aka "Atlas"
Along with anybody else who was a part of it.

Just in case you were wondering, on this day (2/2/1949)  RCA released the first 45 RPM records. There were seven releases in various genres. One of the released records was the original "That's All Right Mama" by Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup.

Dennis Edwards of the R&B group Temptations* passed away yesterday (2/2/18) in Chicago from an aneurysm. His 75th birthday would have been today. Rest In Peace.
* Not to be confused with the Temptations of Flushing, Queens who had the hit with 'Barbara.'

Today is the anniversary of the Feb. 3, 1959 plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. Some Doo-Wop stars including Vito Picone &  the Elegants flew to Clear Lake, Iowa to do a concert there today.

Unfortunately another passing to report. Barbara Alston, original lead singer of the Crystals passed away Feb. 16, 2018 at the age of 74. The Crystals were well known for their hits such as "There's No Other (Like My Baby), "Uptown", "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home"), and "Then He Kissed Me". Rest In Peace Barbara and thanks for the great music and memories.

Here's where it gets interesting... "He's A Rebel" & "He's Sure The Boy I Love" were actually recorded by Darlene Love And The Blossoms. It seems that the aforementioned songs were going to be snapped up by another group and Phil Spector was adamant about crediting them to the Crystals. The Crystals were on the road and could not get back quick enough to record, hence Spector utilized Darlene Love & The Blossoms under the name "The Crystals".

The story on Jay and The Americans and the tune "She Cried" was not sung by Jay Black that was the original recording sung by the original lead Jay Traynor who was on the original recording of "Hushabye" by The Mystics and left after the song was recorded to start his own group "Jay and The Americans" who also had Kenny Rosenberg (Kenny Vance) in the grp. Listen close the sound of the lead on the song"She Cried" and the otherswhere you can hear Jay Black's soaring voice.  BTW Jay Blacks real name was David Blatt.

I believe the lead singer for the Shirelles was a lady by the name of Shirley Alston, who sung hits like "Soldier Boy", "Will you still love me tomorrow" etc. Was she related to Barbara Alston, the lead singer of the Crystals who just passed away ?

As some here might know, I used to play lead guitar for Shirley Alston-Reeves. She left the group for a while in the early 1970's and lost claim to the Shirelles name.  I'll have to ask her about that. I do know Shirley Alston-Reeves is related (cousin) to Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy Houston.
