Time for a Get Together

"Irish", yes I will meet up with you at some point on Wednesday 10/8. I hope you have my cell phone number. Please pm me with a number where I can reach you and let me know if there is a certain time I should call you.

I expect that we might have a few extra guys meet up with us at Maggie Mays, although they are not listed on our current list.

One member who planned to be with us for the Fire Academy tour will be a little late due to another important obligation he has. But he hopes to join up with us during that tour.

Chief, thank you for clearing things up about the Blessing of the Fleet. The time for that is 11:00 AM. The Fire Museum tour is scheduled for one hour earlier at 10:00. I don't think it will be possible to see both, so the member will have to decide that for themselves.

And finally, with the announcement of the retirement of FDNY Brooklyn Dispatcher George Munch, Disp 102, on October 10th, as "Irish" says, "We need to raise a glass in his honor at Maggie Mays, wishing him a long, healthy retirement.

I have your number Willy D so ill send you a txt with my number

Such a shame that the Blessing of the fleet / Museum Tour clash. Ive been to the Museum before and its very a interesting place. To get a tour of that is outstanding

Maybe "Get Together 2015" we will factor in the Blessing of the Fleet

FYI for guys coming in this weekend- New York Comic Con is at the Javits Thursday through Sunday. May make parking difficult near the Intrepid.

Expect a lot of this on the West Side:

Put me in, I will be trying my best to make it to Thursday's events ;)

Okay Gman, for Thursdays events.

That would be The Rock, The Shops and Maggie Mays in the evening about 1830 hrs.

We are now clear for the Fire Academy thanks to Lt Tommy Bendick. However we do have an issue right now with The Shops. If it can't be done we will move on with something else. I'm sure everybody will understand.

See you all Wednesday

Irish (Dec)

Some last minute reminders for the guys joining us, especially if you're traveling from a distance. Don't forget to bring:

Any meds you take - I got a few myself

  Cell Phones and chargers

  Tooth brush, razor etc.

Scanner with extra batteries (however, please no scanners while we are being given the tours)

  Cameras and extra batteries

Bring your favorite teddy bear to help you get to sleep after a busy and exciting day.

For those staying at the Anchor Hotel, Joe M (mack) has scheduled us a tour of the Great Neck Volunteer Fire Dept on Wednesday evening and the members there are looking forward to meeting us. I also understand that Joe has a booklet printed up to give the guys signed up. I hope to be at the Anchor about 1600 hours on Wednesday.

I really can NOT thank Joe M.,"mack", Retired Chief Jack K., "68jk09", and Lt Tommy B., "tbendick", for all that they have done for us. This would not be going on if it wasn't for them. I really appreciate everything they've done for us.

And just as others have helped us in the past with these get togethers. Members Ken F., "Atlas", John B. Sr., "jbendick", John B. Jr, and Mike M., "Truck 4". All have had a hand in making our Yearly Get Togethers a success. Thanks to ALL of THEM.

And thanks to all those members within the FDNY, that have taken the time to share with us their stories and show us some of the equipment that is used to protect the millions of citizens and visitors throughout New York City. It is a huge, massive organization, that depends on each and every well trained member of the department to protect those millions of people every single day.

There are actually two volunteer fire departments in Great Neck:  the Great Neck Alerts and the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company.  Not knowng which you guys will be going to, here are the web sites for both if you'd like to check them out before you go:

Alert:  http://www.alertfd.org/

Vigilant:  http://www.vigilantfd.com/1.htm

No matter which you go to, have a good time . . . and that goes for the entire get together.  Wish I could be there.

For the apparatus buffs among you, I remember Alert in Great Neck had their classic 400 Series American LaFrance preserved, Many consider the 400's the best looking fire engine ever. I don't know if they still have it; but others on this board can probably respond.

The Great Neck Vigilants  also had Maroon colored Rigs....on 9-11 they relocated an E & T to 287/136....one of their  Chief's Jon Ielpi was a FF in SQ*288 & was killed on 9-11.

Turn over the shift at 0600, already packed and ready to cruise north.  Look forward to seeing everyone.  To all that have helped put this trip together, THANK YOU!

Just picked this up from "dnainfo" quote
GRAMERCY ? After working in the FDNY for more than 20 years, Mike Meyers teamed up with two other firemen to open his first bar in New York City.

Gramercy Ale House, a new Irish sports bar at 272 Third Ave., started as an idea that was tossed around during an idle moment at the Ladder 4 firehouse in Times Square, where Meyers is an FDNY chief.

?It?s the dream right?? said Meyers, who lives in Long Island with his family. ?We just kind of talked about it one day, and then...found a good deal. It?s our first foray into the bar business.?

Meyers turned the dream into a reality by working with two of the firemen he supervised at Ladder 4, Andrew Sheridan and Dan Beyrer, and two Irish men named Trevor Kelly and Martin Prior. They soft-opened the bar in June and just recently put up a sign outside and added a food menu.

?We?re trying to take it slow and get it right,? said Kelly, who worked as a plumber and bartender before starting the bar.

Gramercy Ale House, which used to be Copper Door Tavern, offers a variety of local brews from New York, Vermont and Rhode Island, and serves American fare including burgers and pulled-pork sandwiches.

The best-seller so far is the potato nachos, made with waffle fries topped with jalapenos, olives, guacamole, sour cream, bacon and melted cheddar cheese.

The pub is brighter than its predecessor with new floor-to-ceiling windows in the front and a skylight in the back seating area.

The owners plan to incorporate tributes to law enforcement in the decor, including a display of FDNY, NYPD and U.S. military helmets and original steel parts from the World Trade Center towers, Meyers said.

?Juggling full-time work with a bar can be pressing at times, but I?m learning a lot," he said. "I'm learning how to work together with four people and how to find a common ground.?

Ive spoke to Chief Myers via the net. Seems a great guy. i plan to head there next Sunday Monday or Tuesday or maybe ALL 3 nights lol.

Just waiting for Willie D to pick me up in the Buff mobile.

I attended the Memorial Mass this am on 100st street. It was a beautiful service and day. Roughly 7,000 members attended the service

Welcome to New York, everyone.  Hope you had a smooth trip to the city and that your time here is a lot of fun, instructional and full of good fellowship.  I'm sorry that i won't be able to join you.

God Bless, enjoy and leave the City a bit better than you found it (or at least don't raise too much hell).

Best,
manhattan

Thank you "Manhattan".

It's 11 pm and we have a busy day tomorrow. I thought these guys would be back at the hotel sleeping with their teddy bears. Where are they ? They're all out drinking in some joint when they should be resting up for tomorrow.
