Who the f--k you are talking.like that I would love to see u face to face on this trip and say that to me and my company you got some balls
......Slow down & lighten up man.

Enough with everyone telling me to relax I'm  entitled to what I want to saybkist like everyone else on this forum I can't sit idle and LST some person put down companies that he doesn't know about

Mr Engine, this is a great web site and many of us on here have become friends over the years. One of the individuals I was referring to has been a friend of mine since the early 1970s. Also, the guy named Willy D and the Micky D flood. Well that's me. I even insulted myself, all in fun of course. Most everybody on here understands that.

In reality, I have a lot of respect for the individuals I wrote about. I know the kind of people they are. But most have suddenly learned the kind of person that you might be. I hope you are able to understand a little bit better now.

I hope that this has been a learning experience and I hope that you will contribute to this site, but hopefully under much different conditions. It's always best to get all the facts first.

Two Point!

1. Chill Joey , we are are all OLD friends here! A lot of the references mentioned in our post are inside jokes that are usually a response to some earlier event or experience! There is never any disrespect intended nor tolerated towards any fire company in the FDNY or for that matter in the USA or the world. This is an electronic version of a firehouse kitchen! Pranks and jokes until the bell rings then respect, support and brotherhood! My only advice is listen and learn!

2. I am in trouble! If it requires a passport for Mike to leave the Bronx, how many days will it take me to clear customs when arriving from the foreign land of Tennessee? ::) :o ;D

I was born in Memphis

You may need to be there to speak for me Mike! Tennessee is giving Memphis to Mississippi in 2014! LOL

I haven't been allowed to cross into brooklyn since the 70's whn I lost my copy of "Hookd on Piasanics"

I said something in an earlier post that was said in jest but offended someone. That was never intended. To Joeyengine, I am sorry for my comments. It offended you and I did not wish to do that. I saw your pride in your response and applaud that. Hopefully you can attend the get together and I can shake your hand and apologize to you face to face. If I offended anyone else, I apologize to you also. Thank you fellow members.

October 18th (Friday) and October 19th (Saturday) are the dates that we are planning the Get Together.

I recently spent the day with "Atlas" and another member who seemed interested in helping to get this project put together. I think they presented some very good ideas.

We have decided that Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island would be a good place to hold this years event. Part of the event would focus on Storm Sandy as the First Anniversary comes up in October. Few events in the history of the City of New York ever tested the FDNY in such a magnitude. Our site member "Atlas" himself, a victim of Storm Sandy, was directly involved during these very diffucult days and even weeks. About 100 buildings burned in the area of Brezzy Point alone. Swift Water Rescue Teams had to be organized and due to the high water, sometimes it was impossible to get to some very serious fires. It is hoped that we as a group, will be able to see what did happen and what is going on today since that diseaster in the Breezy Point area of Queens. We hope to be able to hear from those who were involved, what it was like during that time. With No cell phones, no electricity, and people in serious danger from both fires and water.

Therefore, we believe that our first day, Friday October 18th, would be dedicated to Storm Sandy and the area known as Breezy Point. For most people across America, they really had no idea where Brezzy Point in New York City was. But they saw for themselves, on all the national TV channels, the effects of Storm Sandy, as numerous citizens were rescued and a hundred homes in that area were destroyed from high water or burned.

We hope that we can tour some of that area and maybe stop in to one or two FDNY firehouses. However, so far, those arrangements have not been made yet. One that has been arranged though is to visit the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire House. We stopped by that firehouse and talked to the Chief there. It appears we got the okay to visit on that Friday (10/18). The chief said that for about four hours they were required to operate on their own as the FDNY was dealing with several incidents at the same time. Normally, the FDNY Queens companies respond with this volunteer company on Brezzy Point. At times during Storm Sandy that was not possible. The dept was able to rescue several civilians from the high water at that time.

The next day (Saturday Oct 19th) we hope to head over to Staten Island and tour one or two firehouses there. However, we should make it clear at this point that none have been arranged yet. Also on Saturdays many companies take part in a multi unit drill. We do have a few firehouse in mind but we need to contact them first. As "Atlas" pointed out to me, Staten Island has numerous special types of apparatus. It is a major U.S. city in itself. The boro of Staten Island is larger than the largest cities of Connecticut such as Hartford, New Haven or Bridgeport.

We all had lunch at the US Army Base at Fort Hamilton. The food was Excellent and Inexpensive. Of course photo ID is required to get in. I told "Atlas", "I could spend the entire afternoon just here". We plan on doing a lunch there on Friday and an evening dinner there on Saturday. And according to "Atlas", if there's enough of us, maybe get a dining area to ourselves and maybe a guest speaker.

As always as in the past, just a few simple rules. No booze while doing our tours and that we conduct ourselves in a respectiable manor. And as always we would ask for a decent donation for the Wounded Warriors Fund and the Firefighter Families of 9/11. It is our way of saying Thank You to those that make this tour possible.

In addition, for those who may wish, there may be T-shirts or items to purchase from the various companies. Also possibly books etc depending on a guest speaker.

For those who might be interested, I have two hotels in mind that are located about half way between the events taking place on those two days. One is a Comfort Inn, the other is a Best Western Inn. Both are in Brooklyn near the Belt Parkway. I would probably stay the Thursday night before, and the Friday night. I think the price is about $170 per night. For those that might be interested in bringing their spouse, it would probably be better if you stayed closer to midtown for the shopping etc. There isn't the shopping areas close by at these two hotels.

We would like to have a head count as soon as possible. I realize all the tours have NOT been confirmed yet, but if you're interested in attending, just send me a "pm" with your name and phone number and we'll count you in. And do you have to go to all the tours or both days ? Of course not. One member of this site mentioned to me that he would only like to go to the dinner at Fort Hamilton. That's fine.

It was hard for us to believe that Bill is giving up McDonald's for this trip!!!!

Oh Ken, he is a crafty one, Willy D is indeed! He already has them plotted in his 1993 GPS if he can find it in his car!

"Atlas", there may always be time for a midnight trip to the nearest Micky Ds drive up for a bag of McDoubles.

And according to "CFD.....", Willys Buff Mobile may be the first automobile that resembles a NYC Collyouars (spelling ?) Mansion.

If you take crossbay blvd. out to the Rockaways you will pass right by the Broadchannel V.F.D.  Once in Rockaway the first Volunteer Fire Department you will come to is the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department, then Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department.  Breezy Point Volunteer Fire Deparmtent is located towards the end of that Area.  I believe they are within the gated developement

I think you are correct Steve. The Volunteer firehouse that we stopped at was the closest to Eng 329 as I remember. I think it was Roxbury. We spoke with a Chief Valentine there.

"Atlas" can you help me with this ?

Roxbury VFD is the 1st after 329 it is a small sub community on the Bay side before you actually get to breezy Point  the Rockaway Point  & Point Breeze VFDs are inside Breezy Point proper.

nfd you asked for a suggested charity  ......The "Thomas R. Elsasser Fund"  is used to benefit the most underprivileged group of FDNY Dependents .....the Survivors of BROTHERS who met an untimely death through "NON Line Of Duty causes & receive very little in comparison to a LODD......  http://www.ufanyc.org/funds/elsasser.php

Yes Chief, that is the name of the charity that I was looking for. On our last Get Together, we were able to make a donation, as a group, in appreciation for what the members of the FDNY, Shops, and Communications Office did for us. We hope to do the same this year too. As I remember, we also made a donation to The Wounded Warriors. Every one of the site members who took part in any or all of the group functions gave. We also recieved nice Thank You letters from both organizations.

I hope that the word is out to the members of the FDNY and all it's Support Services, that we are a group of people with an interest in the FDNY. We come from all walks of life. From Retired Military to retired Fire Depts. From School principals to Postal Supervisors. From Photographers to Con Ed Supervisors. From Fire Dispatchers to Police Officers. From EMS to Hospital ERs. From Fire Buffs to Firefighters. There are Good People who are members of this site, that fits every one of those discriptions.

Each a decent respectable person who probably paid their dues in the past, or who we depend on everyday in our time of need. Whether somebody has a "PHD" or a "GED" it doesn't matter. We all have the same interest and clearly as I see it, there is a certain amount of respect for each other that you don't see very often on other web sites.

Lets just say if Willy D is so unfortunate to be involved in a MVA he and what ever poor soul that may be with him would be injured or possibly even killed by Flying Debris! In searching Ancestry.com it was determined that Willy D is related to Homer and Langley Collyer, the fine gentleman that gave is the condition!  8)

On a more factual note, it would be great if we could get some borough input from some of the site experts concerning there respective boroughs. Get the hint chief 68jk09!
