I have a patch of tin house south bronx with a big five in the middle. Which companies are this ? Same question for Engine 36 Harlem that doesn't appear in the companies list of the operational reference book. Thank you !!!
The "Tin House" in the Bronx was on Boston Rd just south of E. 169 St and housed E85 and L59 or 859, a combo of 85 and 59 which is what I think is on your patch.
E 36 was disbanded a few years back. Last quarters were on 125th Street, off Park Avenue. They moved into the former quarters of L 14 when L 14 moved into a new house with E 35. Prior to that, E 36 was on Park Avenue around 126 or 127 Street.
Wake - If you go to this thread, "Fabulous Firehouses become Homes and Businesses" in the "History" section, section 4 of the thread has info about about the Tin House as well as other former firehouses still standing but currently in use for other purposes.
I am not sure about the origin of the posted 85/59 patch but i do know that there was a patch manufacturer awhile back who made up his own design for patches of Companies that did not have one & sold them internationally to people who thought they were "official" patches of the Unit.
I bought that patch many years ago from a place called; "The Finest and The Bravest" in the Bronx. That store was located on Eastchester Ave, and later moved to Kingsbridge Ave. I'm sure many on here still remember that store. I still have that E85/L59 patch along with many other company patches that I bought.
But that was the place where I picked it up at. A lady by the name of "Roz" was the owner of the business.
Willy.......I seem to remember "The Finest & Bravest" (in 1981) being located on Kingsbridge Ave. 236/237 Sts. (1st fl of a 6 brick)The cross streets could be wrong but i am sure that i am in the neighborhood. It closed and then was reopened on Eastchester Rd. Roz and her son Kevin were always accomodating to the Buffs. I also remember after leaving the Kingsbridge address, we almost always took in a fine meal at Ehrings which was located on the southeast corner of 231 st and Godwin Terrace. I miss those Chops and smashed potatoes !!!!!
Yes, my friend Bxboro is right. That store was right across the street from a Micky Ds and opposite the 52 Pct House. ESU 4 ran out of there also.
Memory, the street the EL was over was Broadway. I think it's the Number 4 line ?
I think though the store was first on Eastchester, then Roz moved to Kingsbridge.
