Is it customary in Toronto to not have a RIT company assigned until the 2nd alarm?

The RIT rescue pumper is dispatched on any working fire. In this case the call went to a 2nd Alarm right away, thus the RIT rescue being dispatched on the 2nd Alarm.

I don't believe I have a designated RIT apparatus, he was just referring to the pumper that was dispatched as the RIT.  I don't know of any department that has a specific unit they use as RIT.

If command wants to assign RIT then he chooses whatever company he wants and assigns them to RIT, if they don't want to or don't think about it then we don't have RIT. Have heard the line "everybody is RIT if we need RIT" ::)

Our Rescues carry a RIT pak on them and one rescue is assigned on every alarms/fire call. However we don't do the specific trucks do specific jobs thing. Anyone can get assigned to any task at commands discretion.

Can't say I am a huge fan of the way we operate, there is definite room for improvement, we don't run calls like alot of North America does it seems like. I've only been on for a little less then 2 years though so I don't speak out against how we operate...

I meant a unit dispatched to an event with the sole purpose of being the RIT/FAST truck not a specific RIT apparatus...sorry for confusion.
