"Q: What is the Squad 1 TRV?
A: Squad 1 TRV is a holdover from Squad 1's early days, following the disbandment of the original squads. When Squad 1 was the first squad (and for decades the only squad) reformed, they were given the Technical Response Vehicle as a citywide special operations unit. To this day they continue to respond with the TRV on all 10-60s citywide. The TRV carries technical rescue equipment on one side and HazTec equipment (like those carried by the other squads) on the other."
So what exactly is the difference between Squad 1's TRV and the HazMat tenders the other Squads have? I realize they both carry the HazMat gear but the TRV has technical rescue equipment as well. Is this equipment that the other Squads don't have or do all the Squads have the same equipment and Squad 1 just carries theirs on the TRV because it has extra room? If it is different equipment, why does Squad 1 have equipment the others don't?
The TRV carried USAR type equipment pre current collapse rescues and SSL's and the more robust SOC resources we now have. The TRV is no longer assigned as a separate unit since Squad 1 is no longer assigned on a 10-60. The nearest Squad fills the role as part of the Rescue Task Force. The vehicle is pretty much their second Haz mat piece with any additional equipment they have on it that does not fit on engine.
