Two Dead, Hundreds Evacuated in Greek Island Wildfire 8/16/26

In 2007, wildfires almost destroyed Olympia, where the Olympic Games where first played. The Greek government recently passed regulations requiring fire protection measures for Greek antiquities.

Now, over 60 Greek archeological sites, some dating back to the Bronze Age, now have built in fire protection. This includes vegetation control, ,water reservoirs, hydrants, access roads, pipelines, prepositioned hose lines, and even piped deluge monitors.
