On Sunday, February 25th at approximately 2pm, the Uniondale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Kitchen Fire on Uniondale Ave. 1st Assistant Chief Martinez [7501] and 2nd Assistant Chief Hicks [7502] simultaneously arrived on scene finding smoke from the house and a Signal 98 was transmitted. Upon a quick search, fire was found in the house and a report was received of possible victims in the basement and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Brookside Engine 752 and Ladder 7544 were quickly on scene and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire while performing searches for the reported victims. At least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire which spanned across all 3 floors of the house. Fortunately, no victims were found but multiple animals were rescued by firefighters and turned over to the Town of Hempstead Animal Control. With the assistance on scene from crews from North Bellmore, Roosevelt, Freeport, Hempstead and East Meadow, the fire was extinguished in under 30 minutes with extensive overhaul conducted by crews on scene. Under the direction of Chief of Department Ellerbe [7500] the fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
