Governor vetoed bill requiring open access to Police Radio Communications for recognized News Media and "public aid organizations"

A second effort is, however, being made to require all Police organizations in New York State to provide one unencrypted Police Broadcast channel to the general public. I don't know if this effort will provide unencrypted access for all News Media or "public aid organizations"

New York City

A law was passed by the NYC Council requiring unencrypted access to police broadcasts for News Media and one channel of unencrypted police broadcasts for the general public. "Public aid organizations" are not included. The bill has become law because neither the outgoing Mayor the incoming Mayor has vetoed or signed off on the bill. Within 30 days, however, the NYPD must present a plan to implement the requirements of the bill.
