According to the article, a total of 5 ladder companies responded to the Constellation Fire - a "staggering" total.
Nowadays there are usually at least 4 ladders on most All-Hands.

I hated being in the "yards". It was the most dangerous industrial environment going. You never know what's around the corner. Been in the yards in Portsmouth NH, Groton CT, Quincy MA, Portsmouth VA, Norfolk, VA and Newport News VA.

The navy yard was good for 1-2 multiplies a year back in the 70’s and 80’s
