I thought I would share some photos from some of my excursions out west. I primarily go to Southern California, around the LA Basin, as it's called. Here's stuff from travels over the past 9 or 10 years. All Photos By Me.

I'll start off with the Emergency! Stuff..Heh Heh..
Fire Station 127, where Emergency! was filmed. Engine and Quint 127(AKA Light Force 127) and Reserve Foam Carrier 127. Shots taken in 2005 and 2007. As you can see, aside from the lettering on the house, and the Apparatus door, not much has changed.

Fire Station 51, Universal Studios, 2005. Station 51 was built in the mid 1990's after the Northridge Quake of 94 damaged the original Fire Station 60. In honor of the show, the station was renumbered to 51. Universal Studios, like a few other areas the LA Co FD protects is an island unto itself. Surrounded by other departments. Box goes out in the Studio, they get 51's, more County Units, Units from LAFD, and an engine, truck, and chief from Burbank. Fire Station 60 now serves the neighborhood known as Signal Hill over by Long Beach.

Fire Station 8, used in the pilot episode, and a few other episodes throughout the show's run. July, 2011. They run an Engine, Light Force of an Engine and Quint, and a Squad.

Engine and Patrol 69. Mike Stoker, who drove the engine, was a firefighter here prior to his promotion to Captain in 1977. 1993 KME and 2005 Ford. They did have a 1974 Crown here as a Vollie rig. July, 2011

Engine 236. The Two Car in Station 36. Two-Cars are like the second sections we used to have. 1998 KME, July, 2011 They are known as Interstate 236 because they get relocated constantly.

Engine and Deluge 105 Carson, Engine 105 is a 2006 KME. The Deluge is a shops conversion of an old Squad. I want to say early to mid 90's vintage Ford.

Squads, Quints, and Water Tenders
Most of County's Quints are tillers, with the exception of maybe 5 or 6 of them. Here's 2. Quint 187, Pomona. March, 2005. Quint 116, Carson, July 2011. I don't have any other info on these rigs. 116 needs a rearmount because a tiller will not fit in quarters.

Nice to see info from the West Coast. For some reason it is hard to get info on CA+, Chuck Grow (sp) does a good job!I would like to see more from there, but...

  I was out there in 1984. I spent three days buffing La City, and three days buffing LA County FDs. Things are so different out there. I remember back then that both of those depts had Mandatory Physical Fitness every day. Each guy would take turns running the exercise class. If there was a track nearby, they would go there. Everybody ate right. not like the huge platters of burgers and pasta like their brothers in the Northeast part of the country. They also had manndatory weigh loss programs. if overweight, you had to loss two pounds a month.

  Most of their questions were about fighting fires in the winter. How do you deal with the ice and snow ? I couldn't relate to the huge brush fires that they would get the size of some entitre cities.

  They would commonly go out making inspections at night for mostly commerical areas, like theaters, bars etc. It was common to see an LA rig parked in front of a bar at night. Back then in 1984, here in the Northeast, if a rig was parked in front of a gin mill, people were under a different impression with what the FD was there for. But not in LA City or County. Strickly business.

  The gear was much different and the City was big into Task Forces (2 Engs and a truck), and Lite Forces (One engine and a truck).

  I guess other than the Heat and Smoke being the same, the LA area was so different from the northeast.
 
Wow, FDNY150, those are some awesome shots! You really got around when you were out there! It really is remarkable how different the fire service is out there from here in the Northeastern U.S. It's like two totally different worlds.

By the way, congratulations and best of luck with your baby girl!
 
Thank you. City still does the light forces. County has a couple of them. 8's 82's, 127's and I think 181's. The staffing is different. County runs a boss, chauffer and either one or two guys on an engine. I think it's a boss, chauffer, and 2 guys on the truck. City is the same, but the boss in the truck is the senior boss in the house.
 
I've also shot Long Beach, Orange County, and Ventura County. I tend to stick with LA for the most part. I did a quick trip to San Francisco in 09 and was not disappointed.
 
I also have some chicago, baltimore and a few other spots. Let me know if you would like me to post them.
 
Very interested in others pics. Does anyone have pictures of Las Vegas Fire department? No way to reach a firehouse when I was there.
