Battalion 1 requested an additional Engine above the Second alarm as a Safety Company. Is a safety Company only assigned after a request ?

For the All-Hands, the other B/C responds as Safety. A FAST truck is also assigned. Up until recently, a 5th Engine was sent as FAST.

If the 2nd chief is not available, or if the 2nd Alarm is transmitted, an additional company (preferably with a Capt. on it) is sent as Safety. This was as a result of the closing of the Safety B/C by the city. Of course, the IC can req. a Safety company at any time prior to the 2nd.
