"For Immediate Release - York County Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Yorktown Area
At approximately 3:15 a.m. today, personnel from the York County Fire Department (YCFD) were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Old York Hampton Highway in the Yorktown area.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home, which rapidly spread to other areas of the structure. Firefighters from three York County fire stations initiated an aggressive defensive operation to bring the fire under control. The structure sustained extensive damage.
Utilities to the home were secured by Virginia Natural Gas and Dominion Energy to eliminate additional hazards.
The fire was brought under control and firefighters remained on the scene to conduct overhaul operations, ensuring the fire did not reignite.
The resident of the home evacuated prior to the arrival of first responders. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation."
