mutual aid to the city, and fdny sending out mutual aid

Hey, been a lurker here till now, guess I'll join in.
I'm with YFD R-1, and was on the Nite of Bx Rv Rd (that's another story :-X) and when the next job came in across town, FDNY DID send in more units to us (remeber seeing E42, TL44, L38, B17 amongs others) but the job was handled with our Recalled/reserve rigs put into service, and FDNY was returned (with our THANX) !!

Well once I was in Yonkers about 2 or 3 years ago I saw E52 operating at a Brush Fire on the Dunwoodie GC. Had to do a double-take, thought Yonkers FD was using Seagraves!!! ;D ;D

Now what about the Long Island wildfires back in 1995? Didn't FDNY send M/A east of the city?

Also, I work in Staten Island, on the Willowbrook Expway near the Bayonne Bridge, there IS an area for FDNY staging, looks like it could hold maybe a few rigs for M/A to New Jersey.

The staging area near the Bayonne Bridge is for FDNY units to wait at so that they won't go onto the bridge if PAPD doesn't need them.

Does FDNY work well with the Nassua County FD's on the city line. I do remember seeing a vollie house off the Cross Island Pkway in Queens and how do they work together?

The volunteer company firehouse you're referring to is Bellerose Terrace just south of the Jericho Turnpike exit. ;)

i do recall one year seeing(2003 or 2004) a yonkers engine and  ladder company responding code 3 in the Bronx they were on Broadway and about 235 th st i know they were that far down due to the el,and riverdale diner. I know i wasn't seeing things as the lightbars and sirens were completely different and obviously the YFD markings were on them.

It's not uncommon for E304/L74 to respond Broadway, to get on Saw Mill Northbound, or us to do the Deegan South and u-turn @ 233rd to get North again.....

If we are requested mutual aid by Yonkers, or any city in Westchester County, the request has to be made to the Chief of Department, or Citywide Tour Commander, who then receives permission from the COD. We have to get specifics, as to what they want, or need.

In my 13 plus years on the job, we have sent out mutual aid to Yonkers at least twice that I know of. Bronx River Road, and another time on the west side. I also remember a fire in Eastchester or Pelham that we sent mutual aid to in either late 1997, or early 1998. Units are to be assigned to the specific mutual aid boxes that have been listed here previously. They are then directed to the city line, where they are to be escorted to the scene. It's very rare that FDNY relocates, which was actually the original request in both the Pelham, and Bronx River Road fires. Yonkers does tend to get mutual aid from other paid departments in Westchester before they call FDNY. (NOT A ZING!!! Just an observation!!!!!)

Mention has been made of the Saw Mill, Deegan, Bronx River, etc. I will also throw in the Hutch and 95. The only box we have that is automatic aid with Yonkers is on the BRP. It's an engine, truck, and chief from our side. 2 engines, a truck, rescue, and a chief from there side. (Off the top of my head, E-313, 307 or 314??, L-73, R-1 and Bn-2)

Now, as a former Bronx guy, if I saw a box going out on any of the highways, and the incident was near the city line, I would give either Yonkers, or 60 Control(Westchester Fire Dispatch) a heads up and ask them to turn out Yonkers, Pelham, New Ro, or whoever the closest was on their side of the city line, as we weren't always sure whose side it was on. I would also make a point to have the Battalion Chief responding notified that Westchester County/Yonkers was notified and is responding as well. Doesn't hurt to make a phone call.

Now as far as who responded to the Bronx River Road fire from our end?? 63,38,72 with the Satellite, 75, 56 Truck, 41 Truck, 39 Truck, 51 Truck, 69 Engine, 30 Truck(Long Story) Field Comm, the 19 Battalion, I think Division 7, and whoever the Citywide Tour Commander was. Feel free to fill in the blanks of who I missed.

I know E48 went to a job on Lincoln Ave Mt. Vernon. L56 went to a job in Pelham Manor on Boston Rd. Both were huge apartment buildings.

FDNY went MA to North Hudson in late 01, or early 02 for a number of fires. They sent small boats for flooding in NJ a number of years ago. The Fireboats go over occasionally, and R-1 went with the boat when the two cops drove their ESU truck into the water a few years back.

Battalion 15 Also & How Did 30 Truck Wind Up There ?

In the late '70's, Mt. Vernon's Foam Truck was dispatched to a barge fire in Brooklyn.  The barge contained some kind of petroleum product.
