A couple of questions, 1) is 252 normally assigned here ahead of 270? 2) is there some sort of a requirement for a high pressure pumper on multiples on the Rockaways?

I would say hydrants out there are in short supply. May have used that high Pressure Engine as a supply engine or relay.

TRAC@1854 & Signal73,

Thank you for the information Gentlemen. Take care and Merry Christmas

Jim (aka 1261truckie)

My former unit Engine 26 was and is a High-Pressure Pumper. In my 8 years as Captain of Engine 26 we only used High Pressure Once at a high-rise fire in lower Manhattan. We drilled on H.P. pumping procedures a few times. The purpose of High-Pressure pumpers were for the supplying of the standpipes in tall buildings when the buildings own standpipe pumps were out of service OR in a Power Blackout caused the buildings own standpipe Pumps to be unusable. I never heard of it being used for a hose relay. Special Hose with white hose butts was the only hose that was to be used for high-pressure pumping. The large diameter 5" Satellite, or in the old days 4 1/2" satellite/super pumper hose was to be used for relays. FDNY older High-Pressure pumpers all had 3 stage pumps and operated in series to obtain high-pressure. High Pressure pumping is Dangerous and had to be done with all the H.P. hose TEATHERED to a strong rope, with tie offs every few feet. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired.

Surprised Engines 318 and 245 in coney are not HP with the amount of hi-rises. Unless that doesn’t always dictate why a company is made a HP engine.
