At the October 16, 1970 fire on Adelphi Street in Brooklyn, the cellar had a lot of tires which were heavily involved. The chief in charge special called the Hi-Ex Foam Unit, had it set up and pumped the cellar full of Hi-Ex foam. Good results and good field test for a relatively new product (at the time). As IRONLUNG said, the tires provided a heavy fire load.

I remember reading about this in that WNYF Magazine as I had been introduced to the late Lt Richard Hamilton (Rescue 2) and he had been awarded "The James Gorden Bennett Medal" for this incident.
