at L 38 the old-timers were talking about egg-creams...we hit the road and bought a wooden 12 case seltzer water in those spray top bottles. That worked for a night or so, making egg creams...then like the Three Stooges, you can imagine what else happened...

Good one Ray, I was watching a documentary on candy we used to eat that are pulled from the market, these in particular because they stuck to the paper and the food adm said kids were eating the paper stuck to it...big deal, it went with the glue we ate...

and a nice cigar afterwards...loved these.

This was almost as common as a fire hydrant on street corners of Manhattan...you picked your paper and had exact change in your other hand to pay...

I'm not sure about that tactic of having a ladder truck drive through deep standing water. The ladder truck has about 20" of clearance. However the FDNY does have 6 high axel trucks available for such emergencies.
