This fire is right near the area where 2 NYPD Sergeants were shot earlier today. News Coverage of the Police shooting had the clear sound of fire apparatus, responding in the background. I worked in this area as a Firefighter in Ladder 11 and Tower Ladder 18 and now as than fires in this area are challenging due to the high occupant load and complexity of many old buildings. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

I worked in the area too.

Many of those buildings on Allen Street interconnect with Orchard Street. I think they even have AKA addresses signifying as much. If I remember correctly the buildings which had mixed occupancies had an entrance to the commercial on one street, but the entrance to the apartments above around the block.

We would drop the inside team off on one block and then drive around to ladder the other side.

There have been a couple of books published recently on organized crime in the Lower East Side at the beginning of the twentieth century. A review of one noted that every address from Number one to 250 Allen Street contained a prostitution operation.

Just one more reason to use your PPE.

I can think of few neighborhoods in the city which have changed more in recent times than the LES.

A different slant to an age-old question...L111 crosses the bridge to relocate at L1. (A lotta' "1s" there.) L111 then assigned to the local incident. Does does L111 get credit for a Run, Worker, All Hands and OSW or does L1 get credit for two of each category? Just asking...

If the relocator heads into the job the relocator would get credit for the run. At least I think thats the case.

He should take a mark for the relocation and then take a mark for going to the job, its two different items

So the relocator gets credit for two runs and a worker...anything else?

During the war years there was a lot of controversy over who got credit for what as units were constantly moving around.
