This is my old Flatbush, Brooklyn area. I believe these are old stores in an old Taxpayer with all the problems of old Taxpayers. A few years ago, now, the 12th Division was closed. The 12th Division was quirted with Engine 250 on Foster Ave, near McDonald Ave., when Div. 12 was closed, I believe. Now the 8th Division from S.I. and the 15th Division must cover all of Southern Brooklyn. Given the size of the area and the amount of vehicle traffic this is not practical. We need the reopening of Division 12. I is very hard to run a major fire with only a Battalion Chief or 2.

As a teen I Buffed in Engine 255/Ladder 157 so chances are JohnD248 & I went to alot of the same fires. Later when I was a little older, I buffed in Brownsville, mostly at E-231 & TL-120 (2 sections at one time) +L-732 & 44 Battalion, on Watkins St. At that time the basest in the FDNY.
I worked I On the Lower East Side in the FDNY until 1984 when I was a covering Lieutenant in the South Bronx assigned to Batt. 26. Later I worked in TL-21 in Midtown as a Lieutenant and Engine 26 in Midtown as the Captain of Engine 26.

A little info on Watkins St.. 232 was organized July 8, 1966 and was assigned to Watkins St. along with 231. 232 had boxes south of the firehouse were as 231 had east, west and north. The 44 had a 2nd section and 120 was a tiller rig back then prior to them getting a Tower ladder. Eventually 232 was relocated to the Tin House on Sept. 24, 1971, and 176 was organized on Nov. 24, 1972. So no 2nd section of 231. 283 was still on Bristol St. along with Squad 4.

Thank you for correcting the information, about Watkins St. I was in Vietnam with the U.S. Navy in 1966, so the date for E-232 is new to me. Do you or anyone else know when L-120 got a Tower Ladder? Also, I think the T.C.U. 732= Tactical Control Units were closed in either in the late 1960's or maybe the very early 1970's? Alot of the T.C. U's became full 24 hrs. per day regular FDNY units, I believe. Lastly did L-120 have a 2nd section in the 1960's? Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

TCU 732 came from Qtrs. of 277 to the Tin House on Sept. 23, 1971 with 232. TCU was disbanded Aug. 5, 1972. They thought they were going to be 176, but from what I remember somebody's toes were stepped on, so they made it disappear. When 176 was formed 19 Brothers came from 233-2, 3 from 11 Truck and 4 that were previously in 732 and the rest from other Co.'s. Important thing was we needed Truck Chauffers' and that was the assorted makeup from other Co.'s. As far as I remember 120 never had a 2nd section because they had a tiller rig, 2 engines and 2 chiefs, so no more room in Qtrs.. They did interchange with 159 every 3rd night.

Captain Dewey,
No first hand knowledge of what you’re asking but have this information, as far as accuracy not sure.

120 didn’t have 2nd section but plenty of relocators I’m sure.
103 had 2nd section 103-2 was in service from 8/1968-12/1974
E-233 had 2nd section when on Hull street. 233-2 was I/S from 8/1968-11/1972.
The 2nd section of 233 when ended helped form L-176 quartered with E-232 on Rockaway.
E-232 when moved from Watkins Street to the Tin House on Rockaway initially had TCU-732 with them.
E-225 had a 2nd section when on Liberty (before moving to current quarters with 107) from 10/1968-11/1969. The 2nd section was closed and they formed TCU-531 quartered there until 1972.
L-123 was quartered with 227 on Ralph Ave before they moved in with 234 in new FH on St. John’s in late 70’s.
E-283 with SQ4 on Bristol. L107 on NJ Ave
E-234 on Bergen.

A lot of companies jammed in the area and all very busy.

Captain Dewey, "bf231", "ta176", just a suggestion.
Maybe you guys can start a separate thread in the HISTORY Section with that information that you posted in replies 14, 15, 16, and 17.
Perhaps a thread titled something like "2nd Sections and TCU's".
