    Key Companies

All I have for E274 is in 1946 they had a 1922 ALF 700gpm & a 1930 Seagrave wagon, then they got the 47 Mack L 750gpm and in 1958 they got a well worn 1947 ALF from E48. E274 was like a stepchild for many years as they always seemed to be running with reassigned rigs. In 1971 they had a 62...

    Engine 31 in Manhatten

Although the building was declared a landmark, it was found to be unsafe to house fire apparatus. BTW, the two engines you saw were probably the 1954 Mack L 1000 gpm HP pumpers of E7 and E31 and L1's 1960 ALF 900.

    'War Years' interchange

Yes, the West Bronx got hot later with L59 moving in with E43 in April of 1978 and L56 moving from E42 to E48 in August of 1981. ;)

    'War Years' interchange

That schedule left out a few "busy" units like E71, and Harlem Ladders 28 and 30. I lived in the Battalion 14 area at that time until 1976 when I moved into the 19th and that's around the time that E48, 75 and 79 went over the top.
