Those early Combo companies usually ran a Steamer (engine), a Hosewagon, and a City Service (No mechanical aerial ladder but carried ground ladders as long as 50 ft.) Ladder truck. Later the steamers were replaced with  motorized pumpers but they still had hosewagons and city service ladder...

Only Company in FDNY History to have Three Sections???

The last 2 pc. (Eng & HW) companies were still around in the late 60's in areas that required long stretches because of piers and distant hydrants like waterfront areas of Manhattan, Red Hook, Sunset Park, Greenpoint & LIC.

Only Company in FDNY History to have Three Sections???

Second sections have been around since just before the begining of the 20th century. Many Manhattan companies had 2nd sections going all the way up to 1947 and even 1957 (L22, E76). Many firehouses were actually built with 2nd bays for 2 sections like E7/L1, E30(3 bay 3 sect.), E31, E76 (on W...

    E63/L39, Rescue and other stuff...

Some old firehouses have been bought and converted into luxury residences. Two that I have been impressed by are Engine 203 on Hicks St., Bklyn and Engine 154 on Hannah St., Staten Isl. They were redone like those old carriage houses of Manhattan's East Side which had the stable door replaced...

    Engine 39 & Ladder 16

Engine 39 had been at 157-159 E. 67th St. since 1887 until 1985 when it was rebuilt. The Fire Academy used to be there too. What was the period he was at Engines 76 and 22 as they changed firehouses. In fact, Engine 76 ran as a double company until 1946.

No FDNY fire house there but L23's old firehouse at 504 W. 140th St. is directly behind there present home at 503 W. 139th St. which was originally built for only E80 which was once a double engine company.

    E63/L39, Rescue and other stuff...

All of the above are still standing, E27 was at 173 Franklin St., Ladder 5's old house at 102 Charles St. and E24 at 78 Morton St.

    E63/L39, Rescue and other stuff...

Actually Ladder 12 was on the northside at 243 W. 20th St. and Engine 3 was housed from 1960-67 on the southside at 216 W. 20th St. after their old house at 417 W. 17th St. house was demolished to build the NYCHA's Chelsea Houses.
