Thanks for the reply. I do T know a ton about NJ other than looking at a map. Was curious with my question because I don’t see any units from Newark and they seem closer then something like Paterson, same with Hackensack. Maybe I’m wrong though
I thought sometime in the last year or two “normally assigned rescue and squad” was changed and now a rescue and squad are always assigned even if they are not the “normally assigned”. I would have read this info somewhere on this site
I’m not sure it works that well. I’ve seen news stories about the fire union wanting these services for the FD.
Not sure on size comparison but I believe New Orleans EMS is a stand alone agency with extrication responsibility
I know some of the staff chiefs take their turn as city-wide commander or some respond on 4th alarms I understand but what do the people in the other “cars” do at an event like this. Like the Deputy Director of Fire Alarm or Director of Technical Services or Supervisor of Mechanics as I’d assume...
This is the city I live and work in. Used to be at Station 8 that responds to the area this happened. First officers killed since 2015 who was first since 1992. Definitely doesn’t happen often. Thoughts are with the co-workers, their families and all of the EPS family...
Engines are black
ladders are red
rescues are blue
squads are yellow
all with white numbers
officers the colour and white are reversed.
that’s it in a nutshell
May seem like a dumb question but are 1st/2nd/3rd due box assignments adjusted at all when a company is relocated like that or does everyone keep the same boxes?
I don’t know about the vans but I know the area I work in that uses the box style has a chair on the driver side also, often called the “cpr chair” although I’ve never sat while doing CPR. It is nice to have the space for someone to stand there
Most places that run with staffing of “4 firefighters” are including the officer in that count. An officer and 3. That is what NFPA means also 4 firefighters is the total crew on the rig
