I heard B49 transmit the “all-hands, under control” between 2 & 4 a.m. for a dryer fire. If anyone wants to listen to the playback and post the basics, including time and box number, I’ll update the thread‘s tag line. (Never posted an incident before…)
There are so many points to unpack here:
1) Does a department have sections of the city where some companies do 3 or 4 calls a day, and perhaps once a week they get a call after midnight? I’m guessing you could work a lot more overtime working out of E70/L53 on City Island, than to work out of...
The WRU stands for Water Rescue Unit. Certain units (engines & ladders) are designated as water rescue units. They carry life rings, other flotation devices, a surf board, a long rope (I believe 600 feet) and the members enter the water and try to rescue people on the surface near the shore...
I doubt it for two reasons:
1) On 12/24, Chief Leeb is being transferred from Training to Chief of Safety as per the D.O.
2) The Chief of Operations, Car 4, will always hold the rank of Assistant Chief and not Deputy Assistant Chief.
It was just last week that there was a discussion on this board as to whether M1, M6, M9 had ever worked together at an incident. They did last week and again today, granted today wasn’t a fire. Glad it all worked out and no serious injuries.
I saw where Raybrag was questioning if this was the first time the 3 Marine Units ever operated together. Then UnitWithTheUrgent posted about the 7th Alarm fire in Brooklyn on 1/31/15. I took a look at that post and WOW, that was some fire that lasted days.
It doesn’t appear that the 3 boats...
I understand that the citywide tour commander is staffed by deputy assistant chiefs and assistant chiefs on a rotating/assigned basis. Here are a couple of questions:
1) Which vehicle is used? I am assuming that some of the staff chiefs have a vehicle assigned to them for off-duty response...
That’s a great story chief! As for an ABC being relieved by another BC, your point is well taken!
Question for you: Do they offer over-time to battalion chiefs before filling with a captain? Where I worked, if the lieutenant was off, by contract they had to offer it to the lieutenants. If no...
You are correct Bulldog about certain roles that an ABC can’t fill. The one I am aware of is safety chief (not the Safety Battalion), but the BC chief assigned to safety before the arrival of the SB. All battalion chiefs go through training on the safety chief’s operations, which I don’t believe...
Wow, Skyler Fire is 30 seconds ahead of me posting 😀.
Yes, Skyler Fire is correct. I’m not saying the computer couldn’t build-out a card to 10-Alarms. However, the brass has decided that after they strike a 5th Alarm, any additional apparatus needs to be Special Called to the scene/staging.
So...
I see that, thank you.
Also I see the log provided by 8060 Rock. All the Special Call engines were called after the Under Control was given. Ladders and Battalions can be called in any number “until the cows come home” without striking another alarm.
Let me start by saying, I wasn’t there. I am sure the chiefs have a MUCH better handle on the situation than I could ever hope to achieve!
With that being said, I am very curious why they special called so many units instead of transmitting a second alarm? I hope someone can shed some light on...
Just a clarification on the relocations. E84 gets one relocator at a time. The firehouse is only 1.2 miles from the fire, a straight shot down Broadway. At that time of night there shouldn’t be much traffic, so they can make good time. So as each engine left E84, another was called in to replace...
Just a few add-ins. I’m bored so I took out my map book and the FDNY Ops Reference👍.
I believe that Point Breeze & Rockaway Point FD’s both respond to any call inside the Breezy Point Gate.
I didn’t hear the incident, however if Haz Mat 1 & HMB responded, then a Haz-Tech unit (Squad or...
Let me begin by saying, “But for the grace of God, go I.”
I was a volunteer firefighter for years and a career fire dispatcher. From my experience, I can confidently state that what occurred in Baltimore could occur in any other fire department in the nation. How often I (we) lucked out when...
