    6 Members E 251 - LODDs - Feb 1920 - Brooklyn Union Gas Co Fire -Box 33-543

Box numbers were changed when the Brooklyn C.O. on Empire Blvd. opened in 1923. As in Manhattan many boxes were added and resulted in re numbering.

    FDNY-EMS response to fires

(10-75 All Hands Fire). A 10-75 is not an All Hands. These units are going on a 10-75 or an All Hands (7-5)?

    Temporary Relocations

With the amount of money to be spent on new fire houses they should each have at least 3 bays not counting the chief. It is ridiculous to have special units parked in the street subject to the weather and possible vandalism.

    New FDNY Tillers

On one of my visits to L.A. I was told that one of the reasons they are all tillers was that if they switched to rear mounts the bean counters would use that as an excuse to cut the manning. As if the tillerman just helps drive the rig and does nothing else.

Many departments call the aerial "the main".

    New Seagraves

There are other "great" and busy fire depts. that are in a lot worse shape with their fleet. We are lucky that there is an ongoing replacement program for the rigs.

I would bet there is a lot more to this story than what has been reported. Any Detroit members on this site that could elaborate?

    12/11/23 Bronx 10-60 Collapse Box 4785

Channel 7 (ABC TV) has a retired NYPD Chief of Detectives explaining the situation ??? Maybe they should have a retired FDNY SOC officer instead.

    OUR LADY OF ANGELS

I was told by a retired chief that after the fire a lot of guys left the job. It really affected the members that were there, no counseling, debriefing, etc.

12/2/23 No More 5 Man Engines

This is just the start of the budget cuts unfortunately. There will probably more of a decrease in the manning since it is the least visable to the public unlike closing firehouses and eliminating companies.

12/2/23 No More 5 Man Engines

The average Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Public are not interested in the manning level. They may only get upset if the city threatens to close their local firehouse.

Fleet Friday FDNY SPECIAL UNIT COMPARTMENTS

There were two high ladders, one at Ladder 13 and the other one at Ladder 24.

    Rescue 4

Those old Macks didn't have half of what is on a rig today. Standard transmission, no power steering, no electronics (except the radio), no diesel emissions controls, manual pump panel, etc. And has been mentioned the quality no matter who builds the rig is not what it used to be.

    FDNY registration numbers.

Seagrave a lemon? How can that be, it's not a Ferrara!
