I was working that night and it was unusually busy. We caught a 1st due 3rd at Howard Ave. and Chauncey and Tower Ladders were the choice of trucks. As we were taking up and went 10-8 Disp. assigned us to that box. We responded in and the first guy to approach us was BC Flynn of the 39 Batt.. I had worked with Joe as a Firefighter in 176 many years ago and I never saw him so solemn. It was at this time he informed us that Kevin was in bad shape and that we were all praying for a miracle, but it wasn't to be. The thing I remember about being at that fire was that 236 was 1st due and it was a tough and long stretch for them, and as we all know water on the fire is quickest way for extinguishment.
