A rescue company is normally assigned on an initial alarm when closer than the first ladder company. Rescue 1’s first alarm response area is further extended - from 9th Avenue west, from 23rd Street to 72nd Street.

Surprisingly enough I think I’ve heard Rescue 1 give 10-75s more often that most normal companies in Manhattan. Usually ends up being the battalion in most other cases.

Hi all: quick question. Does anybody know what would cause Car 16C to respond on this? I understand certain cars rotate as the citywide command Chief, for example C15A at Sunday's fire. However, according to the car number list, 16C appears to be the Deputy Director of Fire Alarm Dispatch. Does anybody know why they would be responding? Just a curiosity. Thanks.

Most likely the citywide tour commander. Who generally respond to 2nd alarm or greater during "business" hours.

Thanks, I'm aware of the tour commander role but I assumed the Deputy Director of FAD would be a dispatcher/someone with a dispatch background. Is that role filled by Chiefs who have operational experience?

Ah thanks for pointing that out. Thought they were responding and wanted the division to repeat the report so they are aware.

Why is this rescue company’s first due/initial ticket area so extensive compared to the other rescues? There are other truck companies on the west side between 23rd-72nd street.
