Just a little info from down here. In the 70's the dept was looking for volunteers to train as FF/Paramedic. The city would pay for the training. Not alot of guys signed up. Years later, in one of our contracts with the city, the paramedics would be paid 10% more than firefighters. They still had trouble getting people to go through the training. The city then did a nation wide search for paramedics. As long as you had medical command you were hired, there was no test you had to take. So end result,,,to this day the paramedics get paid 10% more than firefighters. I know down here they earn every penny of it.
