Fire on the 7th floor of a 19 story 100x300 MD.

0633 - E-260 - Transmit the 10-77.

TL-117 FAST

0644 - Bn. 45 - All Hands - Fire in Apt. 725 on the 7th floor. Stretching a line now. Trucks are opening up and searching. Attack stair "F".

0654 - Div. 14 - 2 L/S/O, water on the fire. Searches are still in progress. DWH

0709 - FC - Per Div. 14 - Primary searches are negative. Return the Marine Battalion. PWH - Duration 41 minutes.

0717 - FC - Secondary searches are complete and negative throughout. Under Control - Duration 50 minutes.

i know there is a firehouse on roosevelt island which i believe is occupied by soc and the dewatering unit but...with all the hi-rise residential buildings that have been built on roosevelt island there is definitely a need for the placement of at least and engine company if not a double house on the island.

Correct 68jk. The bridge has a circular turn with an overhead clearance just enough to accommodate the rigs. Drops about 40 feet from street level Queens side down to Rossevelt Island.
 
My class…3/74… was the last held on then Welfare Island. I lived on 34th Ave and 21st street (Queensview) at the time so pretty convenient. Right past St Rita’s to proby school. Afterwards it became less fun as it was the dreaded Manhattan box 920…the Rock for evaluation. You’d sit on pins and needles at 0900 as they tapped out the special calls. 7-66-920-12 was not a welcome sound…lol.

I would love to know who created this. The Ferrys would make more sense, no??
 
Years ago, Manhattan FDNY units had an Alarm box Card that directed certain units to respond on the middle of Queens Borough Bridge and take an elevator down to Welfare/Later Rosevelt Island. Some Manhattan Engine Companies even had a wrench or socket set to remove the Engine Companies bumper, so the Engine Cos. rig would fit into the elevator. years ago, I actually saw one of the wrench's when I was a covering officer in FDNY Division 3. Does anyone have a FDNY Bumper Wrench? Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

I went to high school in Manhattan. Never heard of a subway to welfare Island. What did I miss?
 
Just a FYI if the bridge is closed E260 is to take train and pick up Reserve Engine 521 at Rescue Ops Firehouse.

And others had a folding rear step in able to fit in the elevator. I searched for folding rear step in this website and came up with the following in the Houses/Stations forum. "The Ahrens Fox pumpers modified with a folding rear step to fit in the Queensboro Bridge elevator in 1941 were: E 23, E 65, E 74, E 21 and E 260.
 
I've run across a couple of people through the years who've lived on Roosevelt Island and they were satisfied with the firehouse there before I told them there was no staffed engine or ladder inside.

It's NY. Red Trucks inside , Yep it's a firehouse.

The ferry goes to the island once every 49 minutes, while the F train goes once every 7 minutes. Plus since the ferries can't have apparatus on them, I don't see any pros to them over the subway. That's not even mentioning how they're more subject to cancellation due to weather conditions.
 
My high school was over at Lincoln center. Never had much to do with the east side.
So if Manhattan companies "respond" via the subway is there equipment available on the island for them to man, like for governors Island? Just curious how this operates.
