1960 planes crashed

My Dad was in ESU 2 truck that day and responded to Sterling Place in Brooklyn. Several days later was the the Constellation fire - FDNY was faced with two major back to back disasters without all of the modern day assets, tools, equipment, and communications that exist today - and they excelled as they always have and will.

I was in High School then, and remember seeing all the cop’s and firefighters working those jobs and I wanted to be one of them. 8 years later I became one of them, what a ride. My father retired from the FDNY in 1960. Merry Christmas Tom and everyone else who reads this.

Wow. Great story Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.

My Dad was off duty and went to the area where the crash was and assisted in any way he could. Being a young buck at that time was told to wait in the car. I went to Bklyn. Tech so I knew the area where it happened.

Was in Saint Teresa's (Classon and St Johns) and heard the "boom" when the plane crashed into Sterling and 7th. Going home at lunch time, could smell the jet fuel over the neighborhood.
God bless those who responded to this incident and God comfort those who lost loved ones.

Does anyone remember the rundown for each debris field? Its laying around here in the numerous stories on this site that E162 (or 159) rammed the gate at Miller Field and didn't wait for the MP's to let them in.
