.........The 1st due truck even when a SSL is not supposed to be assigned as the SSL.....they are to respond as 1st due & operate as such ...the duties of the SSL will take away from the duties of a 1st due Truck....also it takes time to bring the 2nd piece especially if they are not at quarters when the run comes in.
 
I am going by Communications Man. 7 Add1 April 2005.. Not sure if the dispatchers due anything other then this.

We had problems w/the 1st due LAD coming in as the SSL (if qualified) in DIV*14 in the past.......last that i am aware of it was taken care of at least in QNS....... i thought it was jobwide. .......the SSL might be used for SS duties however the 1st due LAD will definitely be used to perform 1st due assigned duties they cannot do both & bringing the second piece often results in delays......the assigned 1st due should be 1st due for Truck work initially not SSL duties. 
 
There is probably a dispatch directive to address it. Just not reflected in our books.
