“The mirror, camera & radio tricks were strong in this one:

The first one was interesting enough with heavy fire in the rear of the 2nd floor and attic extending to the EFIS cladding of the hotel next door. EFIS (external foam insulation siding) takes off like gasoline and vertically extended 5 floors (thankfully there are no windows on that exposure) and was peeling off the building in 20x20 sheets of fire falling into the yard. A cautious interior attack was conducted on the 2nd floor and attic the vacant peaked-roof private dwelling with a LOT of opening up walls and ceilings. Tower ladders were never needed.

We were still on scene, taking up the last length right in front of the fire building when light smoke was noticed from the basement. Our Lt was just in the basement 5 mins prior with ConEd and had no condition. Within 30 seconds of noticing the light smoke from the rear, the rear of the basement was completely involved in fire with heavy fire extending upward.

I was getting my frozen gear back on when I heard the Bronx transmitting the box for a fire in a private dwelling and they were calling us to see if we were still there. At the 9 minute mark, the tone in my voice embodies exactly what I felt about this entire situation unfolding behind me."
