Not to start an arguement but don't make light of compactor fires. I have been to a couple that went to extra Engine and Truck and second alarms. Some I have seen require the Vent Support. The amount of smoke that can be generated can be very overwhelming for some causing panic and in some cases rescues and EMS assist. Some of the compactor fires get out of the shute and cause fires in the halls. I remember one on E 180 and Southern Blvd back in late 80's with people at the windows screaming and smoke coming out behind them. No rescues made but a calm voice on the apparatus speaker helped alot

Not to forget 2nd alarm Box 1335 - 1987 Schomburg Plaza fire in Harlem,
Fire started in compactor chute, eventually spread via pipe chases, faulty construction, etc. into apts. adjacent the chute, resulting in 7 dead w/3 jumping from their 33rd floor apt.
