Bucket to the window is always a beautiful thing. Well done!! These two companies seem to get good positioning most of the time. Not easy on the tight streets of Bushwick.

It amazes me that E 271 / TL 124 quarters is 5 blocks away from the fire but yet 271 is the 3rd due engine and 124 is the 2nd due truck...

bed-stuy/bushwick there are quite a few single engine companies around.
many a times you could see the smoke from a job knowing you wont be assigned till the 2nd alarm
meanwhile when you look at the area in brooklyn between canarsie and flatlands there are no companies there
a long run for both 1st due engine and truck.

Probably not two trucks as close as 124 & 112 . TL 124 used to be first due to box 746 before they redid the box assignment. Most of those boxes in that area on Wilson and Knickerbocker will depend on the time of day as to who gets in first ....lots of traffic on Knickerbocker during the day. Then over night ...Knick becomes a runway for L-112... always a very close assignment. There’s also about one or two box’s that Tl-124 is assigned first due and 271 isn’t assigned till the 2nd alarm.

Bushwick as always been a very heavy engine areas ...the area between 218 , 237 and 217 have been called the “truckless triangle “...but it’s real a engine heavy triangle. 124 ,112 & 108 all get into that area very quickly. Compare that area of Bushwick to some areas of East New York / Canarsie , companies are very far apart ...look at the respon area of 290/103 and 257/170.

Back in the Bloomberg days when he was pinching pennies and looking to close companies E-271 was on the chopping block ...it honestly didn’t make any Sense. At that time , 277/112 was in with E-222 because their firehouse was condemned. not that I’m favoring of closing any fire companies, but I think it would have made more sense to close E-277 , and leave L-112 in with E-222 and save even more money by not building a new firehouse on Knickerbocker ave . Fire coverage in Bushwick would have been minimally affected. Besides the firehouse on Ralph ave was originally built with the intention of moving L-112 into it years ago.

That’s why you have to turn out quick. Brooklyn way baby!!!
When we interchanged with E 332 from 1970 to 1980 we always turned out quickly unless it was a ERS box. If a phone alarm came in and it was to our left towards 236 it was interesting. We would see them and they would see us.
Now it was up to the ECC to hit the gas and beat them in. We Always beat them in if it was our 1st due box.

Community opposition stopped the 222/112 idea. At that time Bushwick was experiencing a surge of fire activity and the community wanted to maintain its existing level of fire protection not have it lowered. The "grand plan" may have had 112 moving over to Ralph Ave but the community had other plans.
