I'm not familiar with the area. Why can't they go past the 3rd Street Bridge?
All the bridges of the ‘beautiful’ Gowanus Canal are operated to open for water traffic. I believe canal traffic has been prohibited past from 3rd Street due to constant dredging to remove hazardous carcinogenic elements. This is part of Superfunds to clean waterways. Marine units would have to be decontaminated if they operated. I may be wrong about reason but when I worked in Red Hook we often were delayed when one of the Bridges were up for boats
