From the FDNY Facebook page (FDNY photos):

“Around 6:00 this morning, FDNY units were called to a fire at 89-40 Metropolitan Avenue. It is an auto parts store. Upon arrival, units were faced with a pretty significant fire condition. They entered and attempted an interior attack into the upper mezzanine area. Due to the large volume of material and large volume of fire, units had to withdraw, and we had to go to an exterior operation. We rapidly transmitted the second and third alarm under Chief Ferrante, Queens Borough Commander. We're in a prolonged operation. We have multiple tower ladders going right now. We're trying to still get access to some stubborn pockets of fire. We will be operating here for quite some time. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation by our Bureau of Fire Investigation,” said FDNY Assistant Chief Thomas Currao, from the scene of this morning’s 4-alarm fire at 89-40 Metropolitan Avenue in Queens.
Deputy Assistant Chief Paul Miano said, “We have approximately 50 EMS members operating at the scene. We have two minor injuries to firefighters. They were transported to area hospitals. That's all we have for injuries right now.”
