Question on how the volunteer department works with the FDNY and no way am I trying to disrespect any of the departments. If the volunteer are 1st due to a job are they in control of the fire or does the FDNY take over when they arrive. Also does the FDNY take orders from the Volunteer chiefs or officers? If the volunteers arrive after the FDNY on scene will they utilize the volunteers for fire duty. In the department I dispatch for if the volunteer deputy chief arrives 1st he will be in charge and can give the career department orders. Again just curious and not trying to start a debate or a pissing match. I know of some departments in CT where the career department do not work well with the volunteers.
