I also wonder why the MTU would go considering the barge isn't very close to shore?
5/23/22 Marine Unit Mutual Aid Request

Before retiring I had the pleasure of updating the Mutual Aid info for FDNY. Ez-pass will handle the toll problem. All FDNY have been issued there passes so they can travel through NYC. NJ Turnpike Auth request that any emergeny vehicle NOT use their lights. They will have the state police provide an escort. I have taken part in the Iron & Steel rides on the NJS Turnpike & all our light & sirens were full blast.
The MTU carries support equipment that can be used. Something that has to considered is, fire hoses are pouring how many gallons of water on to this blaze per minute. Where is this water going? If unable to drain on its own, the barge can sink. The MTU also has dewatering pumps and provides them with two more FDNY bodies.
The Chief is riding on Mar 6. A Batt Chief is assigned to all mutual aid calls.

You would think the least the local departments could do would be to provide equipment to pump water from the barge! In addition, the way that looked I'm not sure it would be that safe to put people on board the barge unless a fire has been substantially reduced in size.

The bin walls are fitted with openings at the deck level called freeing ports. They are designed to drain the water from the bin overboard. That prevents the additional weight and free surface effect of the water (which essentially acts to raise the center of gravity of the barge).
Marine 6A was used. Each of the three FDNY Marine Units, Marine 1, 6, & 9, are assigned three vessels. The first is their main boat, the second is known as the A=Alpha boat, & a B=Bravo boat. The Alpha boat are 33' Safe boats that pump 1000 gmp. FDNY had received several new additional boat in the past few years. One of the changes in these safe boats is that the nozzle is now stright tip. The Marine Batt uses an Alpha boat along with Marine 3, 4, & 8. The older Alpha boats are used as spares and carry a letter "A" behind their number such as '3A'. The Bravo boats are Marine Ambulances and the only firefighting equipment carried are portable fire extinguishers. They are assigned as Marine1B, 6B, & 9B. The Scuba boat looks like a Bravo boat. Since these are all Safe Boats, like helicopters they receive a high level of maintance.
The operation area is within the circle. FDNY Fire boat BRAVEST is still on scene as of 0855 hrs along with the Coast Guard Cutter Bonito. New Jersey is to the right & Delaware is to your left. The burning barge was removed from the main shipping channel.
Dover Fire Dept.
This morning at 0209hrs the Dover Fire Departments Foam Unit was requested to assist in Fire Suppression efforts for a Barge on fire in the area of the Miah Maull Lighthouse in the Delaware Bay.
Utility 1 and Foam Unit 1 made the response and were directed to the Delaware Bay Launch Service in Slaughter Beach for transportation to the scene.
The Foam Unit was lifted on to the Vessel Big Stone Express and secured with the crew 2 members from Dover and 2 members from Lepsic FC. The Vessel was assigned the call sign Foam Boat 1 for the duration of the incident.
Foam Boat 1 arrived on scene approximately 1hr 20min after they went underway. Operations directed Foam Boat 1 to secure a supply line from 54 Marine 1 for fire attack on the Stern of the Barge.
54 Marine 1 experienced mechanical issues and was forced to reposition to a safe area. 53 Marine 1 assumed the assignment, tied off to Foam Boat 1 and supplied the Foam Unit. Foam Boat 1 placed a Monitor and 1-1.75” hand-line inservice until Command had all Vessels discontinue Fire Suppression efforts working with DNREC and the US Coast Guard on other tactics. Fire Boat 1 returned to the dock in Slaughter Beach and Foam Unit 1 returned to the City. At the time of this post the Barge continues to burn and additional efforts are being made to mitigate the emergency.

This incident looks like it is now in New Jersey. Where was this barge headed initially? And whose harbormaster is gonna let it enter their port now?

At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Monday, FDNY Marine Units were requested to assist with extinguishing a barge fire in Delaware Bay. The FDNY Marine Battalion, Marine Company 6 and the Marine Tactical Unit were dispatched to assist on this out of state mutual aid request. Upon arrival FDNY units encountered a large barge which was well involved with fire. FDNY Units assisted other marine units from New Jersey and Delaware. Marine Company 6 used approximately 1,000,000 gallons of water in order to suppress this fire. This morning the incident commander released FDNY Marine Units after operating for over 20 hours.
