The boxes always make sense as they correspond to fixed points on the ground. An accurate template that has survived for well over a century. The assignments change simply due to who is available to respond at the moment. All in all, a remarkable system that has served the City and the FDNY so well for so long. Kudos to those 19th Century firefighters and engineers who designed and implemented it. It has been updated with technology but the underlying concept has hardly been improved upon in all that time.

I agree with what youre saying, but always and never are tough words on our job. There are instances where updates were done incorrectly over the past years. Crossing into other boroughs is definitely one where mistakes have been made, either intentionally or not.
