The fire in the predawn hours broke out on a scaffolding on the underside of the Throgs Neck Bridge.  Companies from the Bronx and Queens as well as Marine units continue to operate making determinations about the structure of the bridge.

Who would be the first due? Is that by the EMS academy? And any clue on which Marine units operated at the fire?

If the box number 8444 on this thread is correct then that box location is Clearview Expwy & Northern Blvd which is quite a distance south of the actual fire. There are a few boxes closer to the fire including some bridge boxes listed as Bronx boxes. Queens Box 8444 has E320, E295, L167, TL144 and BC53. Bronx Boxes 8959 [Qns anchorage-LP64], 8960 [Qns anchorage-start of span] and 8961 [Qns approach-LP16] are right about the exact location on the Queens end of the Throgs neck Bridge and all 3 have E320, E306, L167, TL50 and BC20.

Don't know which unit it is, but here's a Daily News photo of a marine unit in action at the bridge:

Looks like the Kevin Kane, Marine 6. BTW, Marine 4 is docked very close to this job, almost under the bridge.

I don't think Marine 4 was in service when the box first came in.  If they went it would probably be on one of the higher alarms or as a special call.

Lou Minutoli has photos up on his web site - as a matter of fact one of his photos is used in the Newsday story. There is suppose to be a press conference around 4pm - southbound bridge has been opened for a few hours - assume engineers are checking out the steel superstructure to make sure no steel has been compromised by the heat of the fire.

You can identify some of the apparatus from Lou's pictures. It appears most of the first due or arriving equipment came in on the viaduct portion of the bridge. I could identify the following:

E295, E72, TL50,TL144, L167, Rescue 3, BC52, BC53, BC46?

On the ground you could see E274, E304, TL164

E295 arrived 1st, was a rubbish fire initially & then the box was transmitted as they were getting reports of a construction trailer on fire. yes that was Marine 6 & BC52 was the chief on the initial box. They also special called some high rise nozzles. Marine 4 was also special called after the 3rd alarm. Members were operating on the scaffolding just after the 3rd alarm, but were all ordered off due to conflicting reports of how much weight the scaffolding could hold, & yes it was Box 8444

I turned off about 2 hrs into the fire, @ that time they were going to use SOC companies only & members would be redeployed on to the scaffolding, all to be attached by safety rope/harness. They did special call an extra squad on the 2nd alarm & when I left, they were looking around for some special kind of saw that only rescue & squads would carry.

Thanks - I'm going to pack it in - not much more is going to happen as far as FDNY assignments.  After the fire was completely knocked down the Engineers were going to have to evaluate the steel superstructure and see if any of heat from the fire compromised any of the steel members.  Interesting to see how assignments unfolded though!

Looks to me like most of the units responing were from Queens. I know the fire was on the Queens side, but I thought there would be more Bronx units.
