Maybe someone looking to cover it up. On a less morbid note possibly something electrical that went un-noticed after the occupant died.

Is this a normally 109 or 149 first due box? Did 109 beat the Castle in?

How does this work? EMS just comes, calls it a DOA and leave? How could someone be able to start a fire in there. Shouldn’t someone wait with the body until the medical examiner comes?

In the past, NYPD would “sit” on the body & apartment would be secured.
Fire Marshals report should be interesting.

As of a few years ago, if there is a capable and willing relation on scene they can in most circumstances wait with the deceased. Freeing EMS for runs.
 
Update for you folks: Last night, while I was there i spoke with some members and said the apt was full of stuff and had a major infestation of roaches. According to some of the residents, they had a very strong odor on the 6th floor for a few days before the building owner found the DOA and alerted PD. Gonna be an interesting marshal's report for sure
