He began his career in 1988, being assigned to Engine 237 and later Ladder 124 in Brooklyn. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1994 and assigned to Ladder 112. Later again promoted to Captain in 2002 and assigned to Engine 214. In 2019 he was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to the 3-5 Battalion.

He also served as the Executive Officer to Commissioner Nigro, and was the Executive Officer of the Ceremonial Unit, before being chosen as the First Deputy Commissioner in 2025.
