Neither. Engines are CFR-D (Certified First Responder w/ Defibrillator) Which is essentially a slight step down from BLS (Just a couple of differences like they cant terminate CPR, Ill pull up the NYS protocols in a moment and list a couple.) If I remember correctly all firefighters are required to keep their CFR-D Certification until they get to Battalion Chief. Engines carry their medical equipment in one of two rollup compartments, almost always (or always) in the rear most compartment. Not sure if other companies (other then squads possibly) are required to carry but, L146 for example, does have a designated compartment.

Some of the differences of EMT & CFR Protocols.
Cardiac Arrest - The exact same except EMTs can call for termination of resuscitation after 20 minutes.
Anaphylaxis - Can give Epinephrine in an autoinjector and can also push albuterol via nebulizer incase of wheezing.
Do note that NYC has different protocols from NYS.

In NYC, the only difference between CFR and BLS in regard to non-traumatic cardiac arrest is calling for ALS and transporting.

CFR can also give Epinephrine auto-injectors.

All companies are CFR except ladders.
